British Solar Renewables Sponsors Prize for St Mary’s Primary School Children’s Parliament
As a company committed to our Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) policy, whether that’s through our nature protection pledge or engaging local school pupils in renewables, we are advocates for encouraging environmental stewardship for future generations.
That's why we were excited to sponsor pupils of St Mary's Primary School in Bridgwater after winning the 2024 Somerset Children’s Parliament event.
With our Deputy CEO, Fran Button as a judge, the event allowed year 5 and 6 students to sharpen their public speaking skills and deliver a five minute presentation on the theme "Making a Difference to Our Community". The project presentations varied from the importance of kindness to improving community links, but the winning group shared ideas on reducing litter in and around their school premises.
As part of the prize, we were excited to sponsor a memorable day for the winning pupils of who earned a visit to Carymoor Environmental Centre. The year 5 and 6 students turned into ‘wildlife detectives’, learning about the local wildlife through hands-on activities like nature walks and wildlife tracking, with many of them calling it the “best day of their lives.”
“We are very grateful to British Solar Renewables for supporting the visits for the two winning schools and giving these children the opportunity to have a great outdoor learning experience with us.”
Our collaboration with Carymoor had positive feedback from the school, which was testament to how engaging, interactive and valuable the day run by their team was.
“The staff were incredible with the children. All needs were noticed and met with ease. The children loved the whole day and it was down to the great location but most importantly, the staff running the sessions. Some of the children said that it was the best day of their lives! The outdoor nature of the day provided our children with the opportunity to learn about nature rather than sitting with their mobile phones all day at home.”
