Why we created the Community Commitment Pledge
The transition to clean energy is one of the biggest changes taking place both locally and nationally. It is reshaping how energy is generated, how land is used and how communities share in its benefits.
At British Solar Renewables, we believe renewable energy projects should deliver real value for the places they become part of. That means being present, listening carefully and investing in ways that support everyday life and future opportunities.
For us, community engagement is more than a planning requirement. It is an ongoing responsibility. Our Community Commitment Pledge sets out how we will build relationships, create opportunities and remain connected throughout the life of a project.
Our commitments
The pledge is built around four core commitments that guide how we work:

Our promises
What communities can expect from us
- Provide a community benefit fund as part of every project we develop, supporting local groups, charities and initiatives identified through community engagement.
- Encourage opportunities for questions and discussions by hosting community meetings and consultation events during the planning and construction process.
- Continuously communicate with local communities and landowners, including project updates and clear points of contact.
- Sponsor or support at least one local event or community initiative within each project area.
- Promote local jobs and skills linked to project development and operation.
- Everyone safe always: Protect those who work with and for us.
- Engage with local organisations, councils and community groups to identify meaningful opportunities for collaboration such as careers visits or renewable energy or biodiversity education.
- Install publicly accessible defibrillators on our sites.
- Take care of the places around our projects, dealing responsibly with any issues that arise and acting in a way that reflects respect for the local area and the people who live there.
- Ensure engagement is inclusive and accessible, helping us reach a broad range of people and communities.
- Procure goods and services in a way which is sustainable and has regard for the communities who produce them.
- Display site credentials and biodiversity information for the solar park for visitors and communities.
- Approach end of life decommissioning in a way that benefits the environment, soil structure and biodiversity.
- Review and adapt our community approach over time, responding to feedback and evolving local needs.
A shared commitment
Our Community Commitment Pledge reflects how we want to work with communities throughout the life of a project.
This is a long‑term responsibility for us. Our role does not stop at planning or construction. The transition to clean energy should support the places it powers, in ways that are practical, visible and long‑lasting.
