How we support communities
Renewable energy should be a win for everyone. That’s why every project is developed with local people in mind. We listen to the communities’ issues and amend site proposals according to their concerns.
We stay close to the people we serve and invest in the communities we work in. With our headquarters in Shepton Mallet, we’re rooted in the regions where we operate.
Our support includes:
- Education – School visits, STEM workshops, and career talks inspiring the next generation of energy leaders.
- Sponsorships – Backing local events like Collett Park Day and the Mid Somerset Show.
- Community talks – Open meetings, consultation events, and clear Q&A sessions throughout the planning process.
- Community benefit funds – Dedicated funds to support local groups, charities, and projects.
- Community events – Initiatives such as Shepton Snowdrop planting and other local engagement activities.
Why renewable energy benefits communities
Our solar and storage projects generate clean energy while delivering direct benefits to the areas where they’re built:
- Local jobs and supply chain opportunities – creating employment and supporting regional businesses.
- Stronger energy and food security – helping the UK rely on its own resources, not imported fuels.
- Biodiversity and green space – enhancing land with wildflowers, hedgerows, and habitats for pollinators.
- Boosting local economies – community benefit funds and long-term partnerships.
- Support for schools and skills – STEM programmes and career pathways for young people.
Preserving and enhancing our natural spaces
We know that protecting the countryside matters deeply to the communities we work in. That’s why every project is designed with biodiversity and nature at its heart.
Through our Nature Protection Pledge, we go far beyond statutory requirements — targeting a minimum 60% biodiversity net gain (BNG) across all solar projects. In fact, many of our sites have delivered +100-200% in BNG.
From installing bat boxes, wildflower meadows, and wildlife corridors, we ensure our sites become havens for nature as well as clean energy.
