Elmley Road Solar Park

Elmley Road Solar Park
British Solar Renewables (BSR Energy) is bringing forward proposals for a new renewable energy development at land off Lower Road, Minster on Sea, Sheerness, ME12 3SU. The proposed Elmley Road Renewable Park would deliver clean, green energy to Kent, helping meet regional and national climate goals.
The proposed 51-hectare (126-acre) site comprises a 27MW solar PV array supported by a 37.5MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Once operational, the development would generate enough renewable electricity to power approximately 11,582 average UK homes per year, offsetting around 10,258 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
Powering the future with clean energy
From the climate crisis and energy price volatility to global instability, it’s clear the UK needs secure, affordable, and clean energy. BSR is proud to be part of the solution.
Swale Borough Council declared a Climate & Ecological Emergency in 2019. This project aligns with both local and national ambitions, including the UK Government’s commitment to achieving a zero-carbon electricity system by 2030 and net zero by 2050.
At BSR, we’re not just installing infrastructure. We’re helping shape a more resilient, cleaner future. And we’re doing it in partnership - working with communities, local authorities, and environmental specialists every step of the way.

Making room for nature
Elmley Road Renewable Park is designed to deliver a biodiversity net gain of at least 60%, protecting and enhancing local habitats. From wildflower meadows to hedgerows, bird boxes and pollinator corridors - we’re transforming farmland into a thriving ecosystem.
By removing intensive chemical use and allowing the land to rest, we’re creating a healthier environment for species and soil alike. It’s a win for nature and future generations.
More than just solar
The associated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) allows renewable electricity to be stored and delivered when it’s needed most - during peak demand or lower sunlight. This increases grid reliability and reduces our reliance on fossil fuels.
With BESS, we maximise the value of renewable energy and provide added resilience to the UK’s energy network.
Community first
We don’t just build solar parks - we invest in the communities that host them. That’s why we’re establishing a Community Benefit Fund worth up to £206,400, dedicated to supporting local projects and initiatives identified by residents.
We’re keen to hear from the community on how this fund can be best spent, ensuring local voices shape local outcomes.

We're finalising our plans following specialist assessments and feedback.
