What you will be doing in this role:
Sitting within the Business Team, the Portfolio Analyst supports the Business Strategy Director in evaluating Gate 1, Gate 2 and Gate 3 (from site identification through to planning consent) investment opportunities, strategies, and business plans. There will be close interaction with all departments in the Group. The role is key to BSR’s journey into becoming a substantial Independent Power Producer (IPP) and offers scope for growth as the BSR’s development pipeline grows.

What we need from you:

Evaluate and Manage New Projects

  • Assist with evaluating and executing Gate 1 and Gate 2 investment opportunities across solar, wind, and other renewable/clean technologies.
  • Participate in project evaluation, project management, relationship management, internal coordination, negotiation, and due diligence.

Investment Strategy

  • Contribute to or take ownership of specific investment strategies.
  • Guide development strategy across technologies, focusing on both existing projects and new opportunities.

Revenue and Financial Modelling Support

  • Support the Business Strategy Director in designing, assessing, and implementing revenue strategies and agreements.
  • Provide commercial financial models for appraisal within Gate 1 and Gate 2 meetings.

Industry Engagement

  • Attend relevant industry and networking events to stay informed about current trends and developments.

What does the day to day look like?

  • Work with the Business Strategy Director to assess prospects for Gate 1 commercial evaluation.
  • Coordinate with the development team to gather essential site data (e.g., grid, land, generic budget) for commercial appraisal.
  • Input commercial assumptions into an approved model template, incorporating bespoke, site-specific assumptions where necessary.
  • Periodically review the financial model with the Business Strategy Director and investment team to keep it and the assumptions current.
  • Present the Gate 1 commercial appraisal at the G1 meeting.
  • Update all assumptions in collaboration with the development team for Gate 2 commercial evaluation.
  • Liaise with the site-finding team to explore potential private wire offtake options.
  • Coordinate with the grid team to incorporate updated costs, curtailment data, and outputs from recent reports, as well as connection date projections.
  • Participate in Gate 2 preview and formal Gate 2 meetings.
  • Present the updated commercial appraisal to the Gate 2 meeting.
  • Collaborate with the Business Strategy Director, investment team, and policy analysts to continuously analyse and optimize the project portfolio.
  • Ensure new investment opportunities are beneficial, guiding site finding and development teams on optimal technology mix and geographic distribution considering the current investment and regulatory landscape.

Skill requirement:

  • Extensive experience in an analytical role within Renewables, Infrastructure, Energy or Finance.
  • Advanced Excel and Access capabilities, with experience in VBA and ideally Python for financial modelling.
  • Strong understanding of financial modelling, project returns measures, and risk assessment. A commercial mindset, and the ability to assess project viability and investment opportunities.
  • A team player with excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with stakeholders at all levels of seniority. A technical understanding of renewable energy technologies is desirable.
  • Degree or HND in Finance, Business, Engineering or a related field, or qualified by experience.
