Scagglethorpe Solar Park
Scagglethorpe Solar Park is a proposed renewable energy project near York, North Yorkshire. Once operational, it is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 17,878 homes each year, avoiding around 15,835 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. Alongside clean energy generation, we’re designing the project to support nature, work closely with local communities and create positive outcomes that last beyond the lifetime of the solar park.
Project timeline
Scagglethorpe Solar Park is currently in development. We are progressing environmental surveys, technical assessments and project design work ahead of a planned planning application submission in March 2027. Subject to planning approval, a decision is anticipated in March 2028.

Consultation events
British Solar Renewables (BSR) is developing a proposed solar park on land west of Newlands Lane, Upper Poppleton, York.
We’re currently undertaking environmental, technical and planning assessments to help shape the final design and ensure the project delivers long-term benefits for local communities, nature and the wider energy system.
Once operational, the solar park could:
- Power approximately 17,878 homes with renewable electricity each year
- Avoid around 15,835 tonnes of carbon emissions annually
- Deliver a minimum 60% Biodiversity Net Gain
- Provide a Community Benefit Fund of up to £220,000
- Generate clean energy for around 40 years, before the site is decommissioned and returned to agricultural use

Working with and for communities
The Scagglethorpe site produces enough energy to power over 17,878 homes and save over 15,835 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
A community benefit fund of up to £220,000 will be made available to the local community to spend on local projects. Our aim is to create long-term value beyond renewable energy generation, helping deliver benefits that can be felt throughout the lifetime of the project.
We’re committed to working openly with local communities throughout the development of Scagglethorpe Solar Park. Community feedback helps shape our projects and informs the decisions we make as proposals evolve.
Biodiversity and nature protection
Nature and renewable energy can thrive side by side.
As part of the project design, we’re considering a range of measures to support local wildlife, including new wildflower and wild bird seed grasslands, and a range of breeding boxes for bats and birds are being considered as part of the application. We anticipate that the solar park will have a significant positive net biodiversity impact with a net gain of over 60%.
These measures form part of our Nature Protection Pledge, which commits every solar park we submit to planning to achieving a minimum 60% Biodiversity Net Gain.
