Supporting Solar: MP Edward Morello Visits BSR in Dorset
We were pleased to welcome Edward Morello, MP for West Dorset, to our Rampisham Solar Park for a grounded conversation about the role of solar in the UK’s clean energy future.
The visit offered a close-up look at how renewable energy can help reduce household energy bills, deliver community benefits, support nature, and work alongside traditional farming practices.
This followed an earlier conversation at the parliamentary launch of Solar Energy UK’s Solar Habitat 2025 report, where Edward connected with our team and expressed a keen interest in seeing the benefits of solar on the ground.
Inside a UK solar farm: on-the-ground insight into solar development
Edward toured the Rampisham site alongside members of our team, including CEO Tim Humpage, and Deputy CEO Fran Button. Together, they explored how solar parks like Rampisham balance delivering clean energy with responsible land stewardship.
The visit showcased our approach to managing the land through animal-rearing and biodiversity, with areas dedicated to ecological surveys and rotational sheep grazing. It also provided an opportunity to discuss some of the practical challenges facing large-scale solar development - from grid connection delays to planning hurdles - real obstacles that influence how quickly and widely renewable energy can grow across the UK.

“Clean energy and land stewardship must go hand in hand. Where renewable energy schemes are appropriate for West Dorset we must ensure it supports our rural economy as well as our environment and importantly helps deliver lower household energy bills.”
How UK renewable energy policy connects to local solar projects
Edward has been actively engaged with the renewable energy sector, championing solar through his work with Solar Energy UK. He is committed to working across parties to ensure MPs understand the vital role technologies like solar will play in meeting the UK’s climate and energy goals.
Visits like this are invaluable. They help connect national policy discussions with on-the-ground realities, giving us a chance to show how solar can deliver multiple benefits - for the climate, for nature, and for rural communities alike.
The future of UK solar energy: opportunities and next steps
Rooted in the South West, we take pride in working closely with the communities and landscapes where our projects take shape. We know the land, we listen to the people, and we are committed to a long-term approach in everything we do.
Rampisham Solar Park is a clear example of how solar energy can be thoughtfully designed and managed to benefit both people and nature. It was a pleasure to share that story with Edward, and we hope this visit contributes meaningfully to the wider conversation on the future of energy in the UK.
“It was a pleasure to welcome Edward to Rampisham and show him what responsible solar development looks like in practice. At BSR, we’re proud to work in the regions where our projects operate and to listen to the communities we serve.”
