Kerang Solar Plant Officially Opens in Victoria
This week marked an exciting milestone in Australia’s renewable energy journey with the official opening of the Kerang Solar Plant in Victoria’s Gannawarra Shire. Described by Gannawarra Shire CEO Geoff Rollinson as “a testament to what can be achieved when vision, innovation and collaboration come together”, the project is a clear example of progress in action.
Delivering 30MW of clean energy, Kerang Solar Plant will supply electricity to around 6,000 homes each year and avoid up to 40,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. It shows how practical, well-planned renewable projects can create real impact by supporting both local economies and global climate goals.

A project built for the long term
Beyond the clean energy it produces, Kerang Solar Plant represents our wider approach to responsible development. From the outset, we worked closely with Gannawarra Shire Council and local partners to ensure the project created lasting regional value through job creation, investment, and community support.
Local residents may already have spotted sheep grazing between the solar arrays, a simple but effective example of our dual land use model, where renewable energy generation and agriculture coexist. It’s a glimpse of how solar can integrate naturally with the landscape, supporting both productivity and biodiversity.
Since reaching full output in mid-June 2025, the plant has demonstrated the reliability and high performance that underpin every BSR project.
“At BSR Australia, we’re working hard to develop more solar and storage projects across the Australian Electricity Market. Our goal is to deliver high-quality, reliable generation that drives the renewable energy transition, creates shared benefit for the communities we’re part of, and demonstrates the kind of responsible climate action that future generations can be proud of. We’re proud to draw on our European experience to deliver and operate more world-class renewable projects here in Australia.”

“BSR has shown a genuine commitment to supporting the community beyond the construction phase. Through sponsorships and support for local groups, they’ve helped fund grassroots initiatives and community projects that might otherwise have struggled to get off the ground. This kind of corporate citizenship is something we value deeply, and it’s great to see it in action.”
Collaboration for a cleaner future
The Kerang Solar Plant embodies what we believe makes renewable energy truly sustainable: partnership, stewardship, and shared purpose. Decarbonisation is urgent, but it must be achieved in a way that keeps communities at the heart of every decision.
We’re deeply grateful for the collaboration and trust shown by Gannawarra Shire Council throughout development and construction. Together, we’ve delivered a project that’s a win for the community, the region, and Australia’s renewable energy future.
And this is just the start. We look forward to continuing our work in Australia, developing projects that combine technical excellence, environmental care, and genuine local benefit.
