Kerang Energy Storage Project

Increasing energy reliability for Communities in Victoria

The Kerang Energy Storage Project (BESS) will better meet local capacity needs, and increase grid stability.

Technology
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
Capacity
Stage 1: up to 230MW / 4hrs + Stage 2: up to 400MW / 4hrs

About this project

The proposed project will be located at 44 Old Echuca Road, Kerang, Victoria,

British Solar Renewables is currently preparing a development application to include up to two new Battery Energy Storage Systems. These systems store and release excess energy, increasing supply flexibility for the local network and improving overall grid stability.

The Battery Energy Storage System is planned to be delivered in two stages. Stage one will deliver up to 230MW of energy and 4-hours of storage, with an option for stage two to deliver up to 400MW with 4-hours of storage. Both stages are adjacent to the existing solar facility on the site.

Connection into the grid is anticipated to take place via the AusNet Kerang Terminal Station.

Community engagement timeline

Working with and for communities

At British Solar Renewables, we collaborate with communities to deliver clean energy that supports both local needs and the transition to renewable energy.

We work closely with:

  • Local landowners and councils to ensure responsible land use and minimal disruption.
  • Community and environmental groups to keep residents informed and engaged.
  • Regional businesses and suppliers to create local job opportunities and strengthen the regional economy.
  • First Nations people

Influence our planning

As a Community focused company, British Solar Renewables is committed to working with the Kerang community in the spirit of care, openness, and collaboration. We want to create community and environmental benefits while supporting the region’s transition to renewable energy.

From early planning through to the end of the project’s lifecycle, we’ll be listening to the community’s feedback. We’ll use your feedback to identify and implement improvements to the way we design, construct, and manage the project.

We are currently undertaking planning for the addition of two Battery Energy Storage Systems. Information about formal consultation activities will be shared shortly.

Biodiversity, cultural heritage and nature protection

With a commitment to environmental stewardship and community empowerment, we’re proud to introduce a renewable energy initiative that benefits future generations.

Through every step of our projects, we’re guided by strong environmental management practices to protect the region’s natural beauty.

We are committed to working in partnership with First Nations people to ensure cultural heritage is respectfully protected, concerns are heard, and meaningful opportunities to work together are created throughout the life of the project
