The Kerang Energy Storage Project (BESS) will better meet local capacity needs, and increase grid stability.
About this project
The proposed project will be located at 44 Old Echuca Road, Kerang, Victoria,
British Solar Renewables is currently preparing a development application to include up to two new Battery Energy Storage Systems. These systems store and release excess energy, increasing supply flexibility for the local network and improving overall grid stability.
The Battery Energy Storage System is planned to be delivered in two stages. Stage one will deliver up to 230MW of energy and 4-hours of storage, with an option for stage two to deliver up to 400MW with 4-hours of storage. Both stages are adjacent to the existing solar facility on the site.
Connection into the grid is anticipated to take place via the AusNet Kerang Terminal Station.

Community engagement timeline
British Solar Renewables have completed initial feasibility studies for the BESS and are now preparing a Development Application (DA).
During the DA process, we are engaging with stakeholders, First Nations peoples and the community. We are also preparing the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) which will inform the Community Benefit Agreement (CBA).
Stakeholder and Community Engagement has commenced.
A Community Open Day will be held on site at the Kerang Solar Plant on Sunday 8 February from 11am – 2pm. Join us for a free sausage sizzle, meet the project team and have a look at the plans for the BESS proposal. We would love your feedback.
Our SIA team are also holding a number of stakeholder workshops throughout January and February and our Engagement Team will be meeting with First Nations peoples and Regulatory Stakeholders. Landowners near the project will be contacted individually as well as being invited to workshops and community events.
A community survey about the project will be available here (from February 8, 2026) asking for feedback on the proposal.

We are currently undertaking planning for the addition of two Battery Energy Storage Systems. Information about formal consultation activities will be shared shortly.
