About this project

Bradenstoke Solar Farm was the first solar development in partnership with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD), built on the site of a former runway at RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire.

Spanning over 250 acres, the solar park uses 269,000 photovoltaic panels to generate 69.8MWp of clean energy, enough to power more than 17,000 homes, including the Lyneham military base itself.

This pioneering project shows how the UK’s legacy infrastructure can be reimagined to support a low-carbon energy future.

Project story

At the time of its completion, Bradenstoke was one of the largest operational solar farms in the UK. The site broke new ground with an innovative commissioning approach, connecting initially to a private supply while the 12km grid connection route was under construction.

Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, Bradenstoke Solar Farm showcases how large-scale renewable projects can operate safely and efficiently on sensitive, strategically important land.

This project strengthens the UK’s energy independence and supports national resilience, providing a sustainable source of clean electricity directly to the base and surrounding communities.

Every element of the project, from layout to connection design, reflects our long-term approach to reliability, safety, and stewardship.
