British Solar Renewables (BSR Energy) is proposing a new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on land at Frog Lane, Bramley, Tadley. The 4-hectare site is located 2km northwest of Brambley village in Hampshire and represents an opportunity to boost green energy generation in Basingstoke.

BSR’s proposal will play an important role in creating a flexible grid system that will provide an additional 115 MWac of capacity to the network. Energy stored in the BESS facility can be released in periods of higher demand, or during periods of low winds or low levels of light. This subsequently helps to combat the challenges associated with renewable energy generation.

Given the current cost of living crisis, which includes soaring energy prices and concerns around energy security, providing locally sourced clean, green, and reliable energy production is more vital than ever. Additionally, Basingstoke and Deane District Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and the central Government has set out ambitious targets to ensure the United Kingdom is net zero by 2050. In order to meet this target and to address the climate emergency, the shift away from polluting fossil fuel sources towards green energy production options, such as BESS developments, is needed urgently.

BSR Energy is passionate about playing its part to help the UK make the change towards renewable sources. We have all seen first-hand this summer the impacts that climate change is having, from the hottest day on record being recorded, to official drought declarations. The time to take action and mitigate against any further damage to our planet is now.

BSR is keen to hear from the local community as these plans are progressed, to ensure we understand any concerns at this early stage in the development of the proposals. Further information on how you can get involved in our consultation can be viewed
