Little Crow Solar Park and BESS

A nationally significant clean energy project for North Lincolnshire

Little Crow is a major solar and battery development that will contribute meaningful, long‑term value to North Lincolnshire’s energy future. With the potential to generate clean electricity for more than 44,000 homes and avoid around 39,500 tonnes of CO₂ each year, the project is designed to strengthen the local grid, support regional climate goals and bring lasting community benefits. It represents a major step forward in creating a resilient, home‑grown renewable energy system.

Project timeline

Little Crow received Development Consent Order approval from the Secretary of State in April 2022 under the Planning Act 2008. This consent covers construction, operation, maintenance and eventual decommissioning of the solar array, along with an on‑site battery storage facility of up to 90MW and the infrastructure needed to connect to the grid. With consent now in place, the project is progressing through development and early construction activity, laying the groundwork for full build and energisation.

Nature protection and biodiversity

Little Crow has been designed to enhance the surrounding landscape and create new opportunities for wildlife. Planned measures include:

Creation of new grassland habitats using locally appropriate native species

  • Hedgerow planting across the site
  • Installation of bird and bat boxes
  • Careful pond and watercourse management to prevent issues with invasive species
  • Continued cultivation in selected areas to support rare arable plants

These enhancements will be supported through long‑term habitat management to ensure biodiversity gains are not only delivered but maintained throughout the project’s 35‑year lifespan.
