Maintenance Operative – Solar & BESS Operations
At British Solar Renewables, we develop, build and maintain utility-scale solar, wind and battery storage projects across the UK and internationally. With more than 700MWp developed and built, we’re proud to play a major role in the transition to a net zero carbon future.

About the role
Our O&M team is trusted for its expertise, high standards and safety-first approach. We work responsibly, transparently and ethically, with one simple mantra guiding everything we do: home safe – every day.

As a Maintenance Operative, you’ll support the successful delivery of planned and reactive maintenance across a portfolio of utility-scale solar PV and BESS sites. Working closely with our O&M Service Technicians and regional support teams, you’ll help keep our sites safe, operational and well maintained.

Why apply?
This is a hands-on role where your work has real impact. You’ll be part of a growing renewable energy business, supporting essential infrastructure and helping deliver clean power safely and consistently. If you enjoy practical problem-solving, outdoor work, variety in your day and being part of a purpose-led team, this could be a great fit.

What you’ll be doing
You’ll support both planned and reactive maintenance, repair, reporting and operational activities across BSR sites. This is a permanent role and includes participation in a weekend on-call rota.

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on grounds, fences, mechanical and structural assets, excluding electrical works.
  • Respond to reactive maintenance needs, faults and repairs across grounds, fences, security systems, mechanical and structural assets.
  • Complete repair and rectification work across sites to keep assets safe, secure and operational.
  • Supervise subcontractors, suppliers, graziers and visitors, including delivering site inductions.
  • Conduct inspections, gather information and maintain accurate records using SafetyCulture templates and other reporting tools.
  • Manage work orders and cases, complete weekly timesheets, and maintain site and vehicle stock inventories.
  • Work in line with BSR site access, security control and health and safety procedures.
  • Comply with BSR policies, risk assessments, safe systems of work and HV/LV Safety Rules.
  • Support the ongoing development of the BSR Quality Management System.
  • Take part in self-led, site-based and classroom-based training.
  • Travel to other regional areas or sites when required, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Provide practical support to O&M Service Technicians as needed.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience in a maintenance operative or similar hands-on maintenance role.
  • Confidence operating plant and UTVs; an NPORS ticket is desirable but not essential.
  • A thorough, methodical approach with strong record-keeping and situational awareness.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Self-motivation and confidence working remotely or alone with minimal supervision.
  • A proactive approach to learning, development and continuous improvement.
  • Strong health and safety awareness; CSCS, SSSTS and first aid qualifications would be desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Broad maintenance knowledge with the ability to problem-solve and explain solutions clearly.
  • A cooperative, action-focused mindset and willingness to support teams across BSR.
  • The ability to remain calm and steady under pressure.
  • Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions and carrying out physically demanding work.
  • A clean driving licence; a towing or trailer licence would be beneficial.

What you’ll get from BSR

  • Monthly social events, including team lunches, breakfasts, volunteering days, and Christmas and summer parties.
  • Hybrid working options where role requirements allow.
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption policies.
  • Annual bonus scheme to recognise your contribution.
