What you will be doing in this role:
Reporting to the Development Director, the Planning Manager will be responsible for assisting the wider Development team with the delivery of utility scale renewable energy and energy storage projects. This position will involve evaluating the feasibility of renewable energy projects advising stakeholders on the planning regulatory requirements ensuring compliance with planning policy and environmental standards.
Working within agreed budgets and time frames, the Planning Manager will be expected to maintain a disciplined tracking and reporting regime using recognised project management techniques and tools.
The role requires a high-level understanding of commercial, legal, technical and construction activities required to successfully deliver high value energy-based projects.
What we need from you:
- Ensuring that health and safety is at the forefront of all decision making – ‘Everyone Safe Always’.
- Provide written planning appraisals to inform decision-making on-site selection and approaches taken on planning applications and stakeholder engagement.
- Provide guidance/ assist the Project Management team throughout the planning application / Development Consent Order process to ensure a timely determination and the effective management of external planning and specialist consultants.
- Collaborate with internal and external project teams to facilitate community consultation events, building relationships with Local planning authorities, the planning inspectorate and other key stakeholders.
- Undertake post-construction planning compliance assessments.
- Support the Project Management team in the preparation and engagement of handovers to Construction and Asset Management, to ensure planning, environmental and social obligations during construction and operation are clearly detailed and understood.
- Responding to local and national government policy consultations.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure the pipeline of consented projects have necessary conditions discharged at the appropriate milestones.
- Develop strong relationships with internal team members.
- The role requires a high-level understanding of commercial, legal, technical and construction activities required to successfully deliver high value solar PV projects.
- Conduct site visits and meetings with landowners and development consultants, updating site visit reports, where applicable.
What skills will you have?
- Comprehensive working knowledge of the UK planning systems, including planning for TCPA and DCO scale projects.
- Extensive experience in planning (5+ years).
- Experience in ground mount solar PV and/or other renewables energy/infrastructure projects advantageous.
- Degree level planning qualification required.
- Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information System) advantageous
- Self-motivated.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Attention to detail.
- A team player who listens, learns and actively communicates across all levels of the Group.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and oral.
