Axpo Group signs 10-year route-to-market PPA with British Solar Renewables
Partnerships with businesses allow us to play a crucial role in advancing the UK’s position as a clean energy leader. That’s why we’re excited to announce that Axpo Group has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with British Solar Renewables (BSR).
Located at Whaddon Farm, Wiltshire, our solar park features a co-located, utility-scale 16MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) alongside 25 MW of Solar PV. Axpo Group will purchase all the metered output from this farm.
We’ve also teamed up with Flexitricity to optimise the performance of the BESS. This exclusive partnership ensures smooth and precise settlements, ensuring that no value is lost during the solar energy off-take or while dynamically optimising the BESS.
Why is the PPA with Axpo and British Solar Renewables important?
Axpo, Switzerland’s largest producer of renewable energy, shares BSR's commitment to a sustainable future through innovative energy solutions and making clean energy accessible to all.
Through our long-term partnership, Axpo’s customers now have a new opportunity to accelerate their sustainability journey with access to reliable renewable energy.
Our shared mission and collaboration contribute to stronger energy security and play a key role in helping the UK meet its goal of becoming a leader in clean energy, as well as supporting the Government’s ambitious target of reducing emissions by 81% by 2035.
Is Whaddon Solar Farm beneficial for the environment?
Our Whaddon Farm solar park is setting a new standard for sustainability with an impressive biodiversity net gain of 40.45%—30.45% above the UK national target. Spanning the entire farm, 30.95% of this gain comes from habitat units, while 9.5% is dedicated to thriving hedgerows. These figures highlight our commitment to not only powering the future with clean energy but also nurturing the environment for generations to come.
We’ve also gone above and beyond to ensure the wildlife on the site thrives. We’ve added:
- 20 bird boxes
- 15 bat boxes
- 4 log piles
- 2 hibernacula
All of which will help bugs, critters, reptiles, and more find a space to call home. These eco-friendly features are placed across semi-mature/mature trees and appropriate habitats to avoid interference with routine management and ensure that the wildlife can co-exist peacefully with the site.
“We are pleased to offer Axpo the opportunity to deliver clean energy solutions to their customers. Their commitment to a decarbonised future closely aligns with our own, and this initiative plays a crucial role in advancing the UK's position as a clean energy leader, supporting the Government’s ambitious target of reducing emissions by 81% by 2035.”
