BSR, ENGIE and Canary Wharf Group agree 10-year renewable energy partnership

We’re pleased to announce that British Solar Renewables (BSR), ENGIE and Canary Wharf Group (CWG) have agreed a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) that will supply renewable electricity from our 50MW Knowl Green Solar Farm.

The agreement is expected to provide around 40% of Canary Wharf Group’s current electricity consumption, helping support its decarbonisation ambitions while bringing new renewable energy generation onto the grid.

Partnership at a glance

  • 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)
  • Partners: British Solar Renewables, ENGIE and Canary Wharf Group
  • Project: Knowl Green Solar Farm
  • Capacity: 50MW
  • Expected annual generation: Approximately 54GWh of renewable electricity
  • Equivalent to powering: Around 12,500 UK homes each year
  • Carbon savings: Approximately 11,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided annually
  • Electricity supplied: Around 40% of Canary Wharf Group’s current electricity demand

Connecting renewable energy with long-term demand

As demand for renewable electricity continues to grow, long-term agreements like this help connect clean energy generation with the businesses that need it most.

For Knowl Green Solar Farm, the agreement provides a long-term route to market while helping Canary Wharf Group access renewable electricity as part of its wider sustainability strategy. With ENGIE supporting the arrangement, the partnership demonstrates how developers, energy suppliers and commercial organisations can work together to accelerate the transition to a lower-carbon energy system.

Growing our independent power producer portfolio

This agreement is another important step in growing our independent power producer (IPP) portfolio.

As an integrated IPP, we develop, build, own and operate renewable energy projects for the long term. That means we’re involved throughout the lifecycle of a project, from early-stage development through to operation, helping create lasting value for customers, investors, landowners and local communities.

Knowl Green Solar Farm forms part of that long-term approach. By retaining ownership of the asset while securing a long-term agreement for its output, we’re continuing to build a portfolio designed to deliver reliable renewable energy for decades to come.

Tim Humpage, Chief Executive Officer at British Solar Renewables, said:

“This agreement marks an important milestone for Knowl Green Solar Farm and demonstrates the strength of our long-term independent power producer model.

Long-term partnerships like this help unlock investment in renewable energy infrastructure while giving businesses greater confidence in their future energy supply. We’re proud to be working with ENGIE and Canary Wharf Group and look forward to seeing Knowl Green Solar Farm deliver clean electricity for years to come.”

Looking ahead

Renewable energy projects need more than planning consent and grid connections to succeed. They also need long-term customers.

Agreements like this help provide the confidence needed to invest in new renewable energy infrastructure, connecting clean electricity generation with long-term demand. Through partnerships such as this, we’re helping deliver the renewable energy infrastructure needed to support the UK’s energy transition while creating long-term value for the organisations and communities connected to our projects.
