At BSR, we collaborate with communities to deliver clean energy that supports both local needs and tackles the climate crisis.

From education and sponsorships to biodiversity protection and community benefit funds, our projects are designed to create lasting local value.

How we support communities

We believe renewable energy should be a win for everyone. That’s why every project is developed with the wellbeing of the local community at. We pride ourselves on listening to the communities’ voice and developing projects with the community at front of mind.

We stay close to the people we serve and invest in the communities we work in. As developers, owners and operators, we stay communities for the long term.

Our support includes:

  • Community Benefit Agreements (CBAs) for every project. These CBAs ensure benefits are delivered back to the communities we work in.
  • Education – School visits, STEM workshops, partnerships with local TAFEs and universities and career talks inspiring the next generation of energy leaders.
  • Sponsorships – Backing local events and sporting/community groups.
  • Community information sessions, Town Halls, community displays, clear communication – our first step in the engagement process for all our projects is asking the community how they would like to be engaged and communicated with. We are committed to open, transparent and timely information through the planning process and beyond.
  • Community events –Local engagement activities are a core component of all our engagement plans.

Our solar and storage projects generate clean energy while delivering direct benefits to the areas where they’re built:

 Kerang Community emergency boxes

At BSR Australia, we believe our responsibility extends beyond building renewable energy projects. During the development of Kerang Solar Plant, we sought ways to create meaningful benefits for the local community and environment.

We engaged with a local volunteer group; Kerang Neighbourhood house, to understand the needs and priorities of the local community. One initiative which closely aligned with our ESG objectives, and the needs of the community was the provision of Disaster Relief Boxes.

BSR collaborated with Neighbourhood house to arrange funding for these boxes and for them to be ditributed to the local community. The initiative was selected in recognition of the region’s history of severe flooding, which repeatedly impacted lives and damaged critical infrastructure, leaving residents without essential services.

First Nations Engagement

BSR Australia has prepared a Reconciliation Action Plan (Innovate) for 2025-27. The plan has been submitted to Reconciliation Australia for approval and draft two has been submitted.

BSR has also engaged BKY First Nations artist Samantha Booth to design an Aboriginal artwork to grace the cover of our RAP.
